The Road to Democracy: The Class of ‘65 and the Politics of Social Change

  • This book investigates the political impact of social and economic changes in the United States since the 1960s. Bartels and Cramer focus on the way white Americans’ attitudes and behaviors have responded to these changes, to better understand how the United States has arrived at this challenging democratic moment.

  • The Political Impact study takes advantage of this remarkable 4-wave panel study of a United States national sample of people, first interviewed in 1965 when they were high school seniors. Bartels and Cramer analyze the survey data and supplement it with original in-depth interviews of 33 of the original respondents.
